CHICAGO, June 14, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Steelcase Inc. (NYSE:SCS), a global office environments manufacturer, today revealed new seating solutions - node™ and Reply® - and enhancements to existing products - Move™ and Amia® - that maximize efficiency in work and educational environments at NeoCon 2010, the World's Trade Fair for Interior Design and Facilities Management.
"Steelcase regularly conducts research to uncover user needs and trends in the market," said Jim Keane, president of Steelcase Group. "As a result, we're introducing new chairs and enhancements to existing products to address those needs, while also providing a comfortable environment that promotes collaboration and creativity."
With an increased focus on digital tools and a more diverse student population, group work is an essential part of today's classroom. Steelcase's new educational chair, node, caters to this new mode of learning so that classrooms can catch up to the technology students are already using, while also enhancing the learning experience. With the swivel feature on node, students have visual and physical access to each other and content, and can easily rotate to view the board, the instructor and other students, or to quickly transition back into group activities. Node also offers more table surface than a traditional chair with tablet arm, which provides enough personal work space to access multiple tools in one setting. Innovative in comfort and design, node supports both left- and right-handed students with a table top that swivels to either side. In addition, the base and arm can hold a variety of student backpacks and bags, keeping them out of the aisles and reclaiming the space below the seat.
Node will be available to ship in the United States in July 2010.
A combination of good design, comfort and affordability, Reply is a global family of Steelcase seating that includes task and multi-use chairs. Simple yet effective, Reply offers the fundamental adjustments needed for proper ergonomic support and long-term comfort.
Available in upholstered and specially designed mesh, Reply combines aesthetics, comfort and ease of use into an ergonomic design. The soft-to-the-touch mesh delivers remarkable comfort with an airy and light scale design aesthetic.
Reply will be available in the North America Fall 2010.
The Move chair uses ergonomic technology to create a flexible and durable seating structure that moves with the user. This year, Steelcase introduces a non-upholstered and easy-to-use seat for Move, with 12 color options, adding to the unique features of this versatile, stackable and environmentally-friendly chair. Customers can mix and match colors on the seats and backs to create multiple color combinations. The patented technology of Move challenges the traditional definition of a multi-purpose chair and its new non-upholstered seat makes it appropriate for a variety of applications, including healthcare offices, higher education settings and collaborative workplace environments.
The non-upholstered seat will be available on Move in June 2010. The full line of new colors will be available in fall 2010.
The enhancements to Steelcase's Amia chair build on the award winning design. The new premium finishes, upholstered outer back and upholstered leather arm caps provide options for upscale and executive environments. With clean and simple lines at a mid-level price point, Amia features Steelcase's Alive Seating™ technology, enabling dynamic movement, user control and a strategic approach to sustainability.
The Amia enhancements will be available in Fall 2010.
